We will be celebrating St Patricks Day, Thursday 17th of March with a wearing of a touch of green and a gold coin donation to the Caritas Lenten Appeal. Students will wear their school uniform and add a touch of green, for example a hat, a ribbon or green shoes! If you would like further guidance in this please contact the office.
This year’s Lenten Appeal theme is ‘Hear the cry of the earth and the poor’ taken from Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ which asks us to protect the planet and its people. The Lent Appeal is run by Caritas on behalf of New Zealand’s Catholic Bishops to support Caritas’ work of charity and justice for the world’s poorest and most vulnerable, both in New Zealand and overseas.
In 2015 the Bishops’ Lent Appeal raised over $1 million from parishes and schools across New Zealand. This enabled Caritas to respond immediately to disasters in Nepal, Vanuatu and the Middle East. Donations also helped Caritas to support communities to meet their basic survival needs and helped us to speak out for justice, to influence attitudes and create change.
To mark the end of Lent our school Holy Week Liturgy will be held at St Thomas Moore on Thursday the 24th of April. The liturgy will begin at 9:15am and each class will have a special role.
